As a singer/songwriter/guitarist, NICHOLAS has performed, toured and/or recorded with such notables as B.B. KING, RICK JAMES and THE UGLY DUCKINGS. He has been instrumental in forming several bands (ie. MILESTONE, WHITE CANE and BACH LAVA). His interests cover a wide musical spectrum, but his roots are in old school Rhythm and Blues. NICHOLAS is the creative spark that defines BENTROOTS.
ROBERT is a veteran musician with twenty years of experience. His training stems from the Humber Jazz Music course and many years in a drum corps. ROBERT has played with several working bands in the G.T.A. and has toured Ontario extensively. One of these bands,[the original OASIS], was a semi-finalist in a local homegrown contest sponsored by radio station Q-107. But ROBERT's passion is for the music, and it's that passion that fuels BENTROOTS.
MICHAEL has for many years been described as Canada's unsung national treasure. He has added immeasurably to hundreds of recording sessions in a career that began in the early days of the rock revolution, when he was a member of the '60s supergroup, RHINOCEROS. He has performed and recorded with the likes of LOU REED, SOLOMON BURKE and Canada's perennial favourite THE DOWNCHILD BLUES BAND. MICHAEL was named Piano/Keyboard Player of the Year for 2000 by the Maple Blues Awards. His unique musical scope drives BENTROOTS.
DUNCAN started off playing with the GOOD BROS. and CANADIAN ZEPHYR. In 1984 DUNCAN was introduced to MORGAN DAVIS. His straight ahead style and impeccable timing grew into two years of playing with MORGAN, which led to performing with MICHAEL PICKETT, DUTCH MASON, HOCK WALSH, and various members of the DOWNCHILD BLUES BAND. In the late 80s DUNCAN met TOM BARLOW and played with TOM for the next 14 years. DUNCAN has continued performing with GRANT LYLE, THE VAUGHN PASSMORE TRIO and JOHNNY MAX prior to lending his percussive excellence to BENTROOTS.
ED is another veteran of the Toronto music scene but with a twist. His was the musical genius behind LIVINGSTONE'S TRIP and HEAVEN N EARTH in the 60's and helped form WHITE CANE in the 70's. He's toured and recorded with many local acts including such artists as DANIEL LANOIS and RAY MATTERICK. He has enjoyed a career in jingles and also has provided music for film and television like the 80's show "LIVE IT UP". He's currently an integral part of the SON ROBERTS NU BLUES BAND as well as performing with various artists in the GTA. His unique approach to the keyboard and accordion provides a special musical quality that leads to BENTROOTS.
